Walk down Main

I took a left onto Main St. Just because I could. The streetlights came closer, a small yellow haze in the diatance. No stars tonight, the gray sky looming above softly lit by the small section of city life I was approaching. My drive went too fast. I missed too much. Parking on a side road, I excitedly step out onto the damp pavement. My leather jacket keeping me warm. I began to walk, not knowing what I would find. My grin was growing. Not for any reason aside from that all elements came together. The late-night appeal, a stranger on a small town Main street adventure, the smell of cool mountain air...Small shoppes pass by. All closed for the day, but I wonder what a friday night would be like. I stop into a bar on my way back, getting looks from all the patrons. Once in the door, up some wooden steps, my seat awaits. She asks what I'd like and of course...IPA. Listening to all the conversations of the small town life that weren't my own left me feeling uneasy. I know no one here. Sipping the beer, watching sports, smelling the excessive colognes and purfumes of my temporary neighbors I can't help but smile. I'm comfortable. The Louisville Rex and I was on #2. A side of water was my insurance to get home. I close my tab. Unsure of where to go. But who cares. I can go where I want. Paying the tender I throw my jacket back on and walk out into the chill. Rain starts again. Cold mountain air comes in from the west. My car still where I left it, I get in. Not knowing where I will go next.

But I will get there.
